Farm Updates
CORN PLANTING IS COMPLETE! We started on Monday and finished on Thursday. It felt like a sprint. And today, a nice rain to help the plants to start sprouting. But with the rain, we have a lot of wind. I cannot believe how windy it has been in April. Hopefully that changes soon.
Working Up the Ground Ahead of the Planter
Pigs are doing well after being sick for 2. months. It was determined they had the flu and PRRS. Double whammy.
Today, we are moving pigs from one farm to another.
Why?
When we purchased this group of weaned pigs, the pigs on the farm where they were to go were not completely gone to market. So we had room at the home site to hold them until the other site was empty.
Today is moving day. Wind and all.
All in all, we are blessed and thankful.

Our Milk is Safe
Have you been listening to the news recently about the detection of H5N1 (bird flu) in our milk supply? The bottom line is the virus that is being detected is not a live virus. This is why we pasteurize our milk. If you want more info, please click here. No need to fear that big glass of cold milk.
Earth Day
We celebrated Earth Day a few days ago.
Farmers are stewards of the land. Our goal is to leave our soils in better condition than when we started. We are continuously finding ways to improve. Always have, always will.
It is who we are.
Eat Less Beef?
And speaking of Earth Day, the Star Tribune recently wrote, "Eat less beef. Ride the bus. Turn down the thermostat. For Earth Day, we bring you ideas on how to do your part and reduce your carbon footprint."
What do you mean eat less beef? This is what the propaganda machine does. For some reason, there are people that think cows contribute significantly to our carbon footprint. Sorry, not true.
This is what happens when people have been removed from the farm. And it makes me nervous when I think of the types of regulations that may be coming down the road that will impact farmers.
Dirt Cheap
Have you heard Cody Johnson’s song Dirt Cheap? I am not a country fan but I heard people say how they like this song. So I decided to listen to it and more importantly read the lyrics.
Wow.
I am now a Cody Johnson fan. Here is a link to the song, Dirt Cheap, with lyrics. It really touches home and I couldn’t agree more.
They came in thinkin' top dollar
To that old cotton crop farmer
They knocked on his screen door, and he said
"Lord, what you need, boys, " and they said
"You know all the others went and cashed out
We got the subdivision all mapped out
It'll sit right here on this land
And you can leave town a rich man"
And he said, "Boys, whatever you're offerin', it won't be enough

Advocating for Agriculture
A group of local volunteers put on an annual event to promote and advocate for agriculture. It is called “From the Ground Up.” Here is one we did a couple of years ago. Yes, we set up tables in the corn field.
