Stories and Perspectives from the Farm
Ag Day Thoughts, What has happened to our media?, And Who Made a Farmer
Farm Updates
It is Ag Day today! What does AgDay mean to me?
It's about acknowledging who and what it takes to put food on your table. As a farmer, I can think of no better profession in the world. It is a privilege to grow and provide food for you.
Yes, as a farmer, we make sacrifices in order to grow food and fiber, but we are not the only profession that makes sacrifices. We are not looking for a thank you or to be put on a pedestal. The things we look for are support. Support from our lawmakers and support from you, the consumer. Making sure your food decisions are based on the truth and not food marketing fear. This is by far better than any thank you.
One thing that makes farming unique is how the farm and your personal and family life is intertwined. This can be both positive and negative. Many times, it takes everyone's help in order to accomplish growing and raising food.
It's not a perfect life. Many times it's stressful. It's a rollercoaster--prices up, prices down. But at the end of the day, we know that God is in control. We honestly could not farm without putting our trust in God.
And I wouldn't want it any other way.
Speaking of Ag Day, I love this old relic of Paul Harvey with “God Made a Farmer.” I remember the first time I saw it, my heart was pounding with awe. Enjoy.

My Favorite Things
I listen to podcasts. It’s what I do in my vehicle when driving. One of my favorite podcasts is Science and Fallacies Podcast. They talk about truth and misinformation in the media regarding our food. I highly recommend listening to it.

Opinion
I am very concerned about what is happening to our country. What is up is now down. What is white is now black. Sometimes I don’t even know what the truth is.
I no longer feel I can believe our Mainstream Media. Look at the recent attack on Donald Trump and what he said about a bloodbath. They intentionally took words out of context—all to benefit their hatred.
This is not the role of the media. It is not to sway our beliefs to only one side. I can no longer believe what our government is saying. Inflation is down, gas prices are down. It is the exact opposite.
It never used to be this way. Is it too late and asking the media to just report the facts? Maybe go back to Walter Cronkite days?
There Still is Kindness in this World
This week I am watching my grandkids so their parents can attend a conference. As a treat, I took them to the Dairy Queen yesterday after school. I ordered through the drive up and when I drove up to the order window, my bill was $16.
The Dairy Queen gentleman took my $20 bill. He was going for the cash register when he stopped and opened the window back and gave me my $20 bill back. I am thinking, is there something wrong with my money?
He told me our order was on him. We didn’t owe anything for our ice cream. I was flabbergasted and thanked him immensely because of the kindness he showed.
I tell you this story because today, I am going to pay it forward and show someone the same type of kindness this gentleman showed us.
And, yes, the ice cream was good.
It is so heartwarming to know there are good people in this world.
And I thank God for that.
I will leave you with this thought on AgDay . . .
Thank you for eating!
Until next week!
